The Grantsburg Pirates had little trouble handling Ladysmith on Friday, Sept. 17 on the road, winning 28-6 in dominating fashion, not allowing a Ladysmith score until the final quarter of the game.
The Pirates started out with a strong series that ended with a 6-yard Aaron Burkman plunge for a score, and a successful two-point conversion.
The Pirates kept Ladysmith at bay for the first three quarters, with Grantsburg’s Mark Seeger throwing an 11-yard touchdown pass to Burkman for his second score of the night. The dup combined for a two-pointer, as well.
The second half continued to go Grantsburg’s way, as Aaron Burkman tossed a 35-yard scoring pass to Aidan Burkman, making it 22-0.
Ladysmith attempted a late frame comeback on a 27-yard scoring play, but the Pirates responded in kind moments later, with T. Johnson running 14yards for a Pirate score, making the final score 28-6.
Quarterback Aaron Burkman was 7 of 15 for 165 yards with one score, while Mark Seeger added 6 of 9 attempts for a score and 43 yards in the win.
Aidan Burkman was the leading rusher, with 8 attempts for 49 yards and a score, with Trenton Johnson adding the other rushing touchdown for the Pirates.
Receiving notables included five receptions for Zach Miller for 122 yards, and Aidan Burkman’s four catches for 34 yards and two scores.
Grantsburg hosts the Webster Tigers this Friday at home.
