The Grantsburg Pirates fell in a close gridiron contest to conference rival Unity on Friday, Oct. 15, by a final score of 26-20, ending their regular season and leaving them with a 5-2 conference record as they prepare for level one playoff action this Friday on the road.
The Pirates relied heavily on their passing game, which has become one of the most formidable in the conference, with quarterback Aaron Burkman completing 14 of 25 attempts for 231 yards and one pick. Burkman spread the ball around to four players: Zach Miller, Trenton Johnson, Levi Prusinski and Aidan Burkman.
The Pirate rushing attack was held to 100 yards, total, but also had four rushers sharing duties, with Aaron Burkman scoring twice on nine attempts. Defensively, the Pirates had their hands full with the Eagle rushers, who used 52 attempts to earn 325 yards and four scores.
The Pirates kept it close but were unable to recover from their first quarter deficit.
Grantsburg comes into the playoffs with a seventh seed, and goes on the road this Friday, Oct. 22 to play second-seed Augusta in Division 6 playoff action.
