On Thursday, Jan. 6 the LFGS Wresting team took on the Turtle Lake-Clayton wrestling team in a head-to-head dual. LFGS came out on top with a 48-21 point win in a dominating fashion to move the team to a 4-0 conference record on the year. On Saturday, Jan. 8 the team traveled to Superior to compete in a 15-team tournament with teams from both Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Due to injuries and illness, LFGS had 9 varsity wrestlers and two JV wrestlers compete on the day. “Overall, the team wrestled great coming in 5th as a team in the tournament,” head coach Jake Nichols said. “If we would have had our full team healthy, I believe we could have been in contention for a top three finish.”

This week LFGS will be hosting a Quad dual meet with Clear Lake, Shell Lake and Flambeau on Thursday, Jan. 13 in Luck.

“These will be big duals for the team and if we are able to come out on top it will put the team in contention for a conference dual meet championship by the years end. Come on out and support our local wrestlers!” Nichols said, noting that the wrestling starts at 6:00 pm at Luck High School.

“Individually, I continue to see the wrestlers improve on the mat. Not only do I see them getting stronger and better with their technique, I see their confidence and desire to compete at a higher level starting to come into play,” Nichols added.

The LFGS team was led by three wrestlers placing in the top three of their weight classes: Taedon Nichols placing 1st, Brandon Lucas took 2nd and Lucas D’Jock placed 3rd. Other wrestler placing in the tournament and score team points for the team were Christian Greener and Brock Noll, each taking 5th place, Luke Pettis taking 6th, Logan Czech and Mike Wright placing 8th and Gunner Schumacher taking 10th place overall.
