The Grantsburg-area gymnastics squad joined nine other teams in Chippewa Falls last Saturday, Dec. 10 for the Snowflake Invitational.
The cooperative girls team competed with many schools that are quite a bit larger, and finished in eighth place with a final team score of 119.75. Host school Chippewa Falls won the meet with a score of 138.1.
“This was a good meet with high level of competition from a mixture of Division I and II schools,” stated Grantsburg head coach Kathy Lund. “Khylie Young-Garayt placed 6th with a personal best on Beam with an 8.5 and Anita Finch placed 12th with an 8.225.”
On the floor exercise, Anita Finch placed 7th with a personal best 9.025. Natalie Johnson also scored a personal best on Floor with a 7.85 and Abby Rombach earned a season high with an 8.4. Seniors Mya Benson, Anita Finch, and Khylie Young-Garayt all had stick Beam routines. In the All-Around, Young-Garayt placed 10th with a 32.20.
“Overall, the meet went well for the Grantsburg-area gymnasts. We had six gymnasts competing in all four events,” Lund said. “It was great having Benson back in the lineup, she was out last season due to injury and ankle surgery. Molly Hart, Sammi Kramer and Megan Harmon competed in the floor exercise for the very first time.”
The next meet for the Grantsburg-are girls is Jan. 5 at Rice Lake at 6:30 p.m.
