Notice of Public Hearing for Proposed Piers on Webb Lake

Steve Austin, PO Box 66, Danbury, WI, 54830, has applied to the Department of Natural Resources for a permit to place piers in Webb Lake  The project is located in the SW of SE of Section 16, Township 41N, Range 14W in Town of Webb Lake, Burnett County.

The Webb Lake Campground Dock Project’s goal is to gain safe and stable marine docking for the community. Currently there are 6 roll in docks that are very old, unsafe, unstable and in need of extensive repair. The 6 docks are all along the main shoreline and have been there for over 20 years. There are currently 32 mooring slips available and this has been the case for over the last 20+ years as well.  This project plan is to replace all existing docks with new floating docks.

The Department will review the proposal provided by the applicant and any information from public comments and the public informational hearing.  The Department will determine whether the proposal complies with ss. 1.11 and 30.206, Stats., and ch. NR 150, Wis. Adm. Code, and ensure that the required mitigation meets the standards in s. 281.36(3r), Stats. if the project impacts wetlands.

The Department has made a tentative determination that it will grant the permit for the proposed activity.

The public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, June 30, at 2:00pm. The meeting will be conducted with a Department hearing examiner. The Department scheduled a public hearing on this activity or project because the Department received a request for a public hearing.  The hearing will be a public informational hearing where members of the public can learn more about the proposed activity and submit written or oral comments about the waterway and project in light of the legal standards above.

Any member of the public may submit written comments by emailing or writing Dan Harrington, Wisconsin DNR, 810 West Maple Street, Spooner, WI  54801 by U.S. mail.  Comments should include the docket number or applicant name, and should relate to whether the project meets the legal standards listed above. Comments must be postmarked no later than 10 days after the date that the public informational hearing is completed in order for them to be considered.

The final decision may be appealed as indicated in the permit decision document.
