Gordon Harmon, age 82, of Spring Valley, formerly of Grantsburg, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, at his residence in the Valley Villas.
Gordon was born Dec. 8, 1939, to Earl and Verna (Nordstrom) Harmon in Grantsburg. He attended Grantsburg High School and graduated with the Class of 1957.
After high school, Gordon entered the U.S. Army and served for two years. In 1958 he married Kay Jensen and was blessed with four children. They were married for 26 years before ending their marriage.
Gordon worked in a machine shop and various construction jobs before becoming self-employed. He later operated Harmon Brothers Construction in Grantsburg with his brothers Glen and Marvin. After their start in residential construction, they focused on commercial with several schools, banks, factories, and a casino to their credit.
In 1993 he married Janet Gaffney. They enjoyed residency in Grantsburg, Cape Coral, FL and Fort Meyers, FL before ending their 17-year marriage.
Gordon enjoyed family, hunting, dogs, traveling, building log homes and an unending list of “projects”. He spent several winters in Florida.
Preceding him in death were his parents; infant son DWayne; brothers Larry, Bradley and Glen; and sister Lois.
He is survived by children: Cindy (Steve) Marek of Spring Valley; sons: Wayne Harmon of Roseville, Minn.; and Gordon Todd (Laura) Harmon of Owen; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; siblings: Marvin (Hannah) Harmon of Conway AK, Ardyce Erbstoesser of Monticello, Minn., Karen (Vern) Anderson of Cambridge, Minn., Verle Johnson of North Branch, Minn., and many other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held at the Community Bible Church in Spring Valley on Friday, Dec. 2 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
