Darrell Myron Johnson was born (in the back bedroom of his grandpa’s house) in Falun on Aug. 1, 1939, to Beatrice Warner Johnson and Myron E. Johnson. He joined a brother, Wayne. His brothers Larry, Dennis and Brian followed in short order. Many years later sister, Cheryl (Daniels) was born.
Darrell graduated from Grantsburg High in 1957. He remained a true Packer fan his whole life. Darrell served in the US Army in Alaska, arriving just before the great Alaskan earthquake of 1964. He made his home there until 2007 when he and his wife, Jo Ann moved to Idaho to escape the cold Alaskan winters.
Darrel was predeceased by his parents, and brother Dennis.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years; children Rik (Jen), Mark (Marci), Craig, Chris (Chelsea), Nicole and Courtney; 14 grandchildren of who he was so proud and loved very much. Also surviving him are: Mike, Zak, Hayley, Jordan, Kohl (Bonnie), Aerin, Natalie, Brooklyn, Gavin, Gretta, Barrett, Callie, Bailey and Auguste as well as his great granddaughter ("the baby") Rayne; his brothers Wayne (Jan), Larry and Brian (Phyllis), and sister, Cheryl (Mike) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Darrell will be interred in the Idaho Veterans Cemetery in Boise, Idaho. He loved to read obituaries. This one does not do justice to the fine husband, great father, and grandfather that he truly was. He loved to fish, take motor home trips with his grandkids and visit his Wisconsin relatives. One of his granddaughters said, "He taught me what gentle love is.” What else is there to say?!
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
