New trustee appointed to fill vacancy; Sad police connection
Webster has a full village board again, as trustee Bill Summer was sworn-in as village president, leaving his incumbent trustee seat to run unchallenged in April, after longtime village president Jeff Roberts chose not to seek re-election.
Summers’ vacant trustee seat will now go to Matt Stewart who was appointed last week to fill the seat until the next election cycle.
“I’m excited to be here and help out,” Stewart told the board at their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 10. He will join the board at the next meeting.
While newly seated village president Bill Summer had little business action to direct, there was a heated discussion that took place early on with resident Russ Burford, questioning the goals of possible village expansion to the West, toward Smith Pines, and extending Main Street several blocks to meet a possible future development.
“What is the rationale?” Burford asked, while questioning rough estimates for the costs to bring village utilities out to precede the expansion, which may run as high as $2 million.
