All too often important local and state elected offices are unopposed or vacant, leaving an unelected appointee to fill the office. Voters deserve a choice in who will represent them.

League of Women Voters of Wisconsin is launching its “Champion Your Community: Run for Office” campaign to inform and encourage local residents to step up, take on a leadership role in their communities and make a difference for their neighborhoods.

Now is the time for folks to launch their campaigns as candidates have from Dec. 1, 2021, through Jan. 4, 2022, to file nomination papers, declarations of candidacy, and campaign registration statements with the filing officer. The Spring Primary is February 15, 2022 and Spring Election is April 5, 2022.

The League has put together an informative toolkit and webpage of resources to help anyone who is considering running for office.

Running for office gives people a chance to speak out on the issues they are passionate about and make the changes they wish to see in their communities. There are many ways to be a leader, and each person brings their own unique background and perspective to elected office. For those who would like additional support, there are plenty of organizations out there that recruit and train candidates.

Check with your local clerk’s office to find out what offices are up for election this Spring 2022.
