On April 8 the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) confirmed the first case of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Pine County. The individual is a male in his 20s currently recovering in isolation at home. His infection is linked to contact with a confirmed case and is not associated with community transmission.
Pine County Public Health encourages everyone to remain vigilant in following guidance from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which includes:
ï‚· Maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet when you must leave your home for essentials or work
ï‚· Wear a mask when out in public
ï‚· Stay home when sick. If you have cold or flu-like symptoms, stay home for at least 7
days, and for three days with no fever or other respiratory symptoms
ï‚· Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or use hand sanitizer
ï‚· Cover coughs and sneezes with your elbow or a tissue
ï‚· Avoid touching your face
These measures will all ensure that the spread of COVID-19 slows, allowing our healthcare facilities to have the capacity to manage the number of cases expected. Since the outbreak started in December 2019, more than 1.4 million cases and 81,000 deaths have been reported worldwide. That includes 396,000 U.S. cases and 12,700 deaths as of April 7.
