GRANTSBURG - The Grantsburg Area Historical Society (GAHS) board of directors welcomed members and guests to the organization’s annual meeting at the Crex Education and Visitors Center April 21.

In the absence of GAHS board president, May Olinger, board member Colleen Monfre, conducted a short business meeting and the election of board members. Members voted to return Steve Christian, Kris Henning, and May Olinger to the board for another 3-year term.

After the meeting Burnett Medical Center (BMC) CEO, Gordy Lewis and BMC Marketing Director, Halle Pardun, presented a program on the history of the Grantsburg Hospital.

The evening concluded with guests enjoying refreshments and door prize drawings in the center’s commons area.

The GAHS is looking for new members and volunteers to help with the group’s summer events. If you are interested in helping to keep history alive in the Grantsburg Area community contact May Olinger at 512-574-5119.

The next opportunity to hear more about local history will be at the Grantsburg Senior Center’s   May 19 Dinner at Five event. Come and meet Grantsburg High School senior Aaron Gilhoi will be speaking on his recent service project of making wooden screens for the GAHS’s old Reed School (located on the Grantsburg School District campus). Guests will also enjoy hearing tales of what a teacher and student’s day was like teaching and learning in a one room schoolhouse.
