Burnett County Sheriff’s officials have released details on a motorcycle crash that claimed the life of a Minnesota woman over the weekend last Saturday on State Highway 35 in the Town of Oakland.

According to the BCSO, the county emergency dispatchers received a 911 call on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021 at 3:37 p.m., notifying them of a motorcycle crash at the intersection of Hayden Lake Road and State Highway 3, south of Danbury.

Investigation revealed that a pickup was in the northbound lane of State Highway 35 waiting for a vehicle in front of it to turn left. A motorcycle was traveling north on State Highway 35. The operator of the motorcycle was waving to other motorcycles that were traveling southbound on State Highway 35. The operator of the northbound motorcycle then noticed the pickup stopped on the highway, and the cycle operator applied the front brake, but was unable to stop in time and the motorcycle struck the back of the pickup.

North Ambulance responded to the scene. Despite lifesaving efforts, the operator of the motorcycle, Barbara Solem, a 66-year-old, from Culver, Minnesota was pronounced dead at the scene. No other riders were injured. Services for Ms. Solem were not available at press time.

“The Burnett County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank North Ambulance, Webster Fire Department, Burnett County Highway Department and the Burnett County Medical Examiner’s Office for their assistance,” stated Burnett County Sheriff Tracy Finch.
