The Webster Tigers headed to Somerset to kick off the boys basketball season. The Tigers had an excellent start to the game but fizzled out in the second half leading to a 36-64 loss in the opening game of the season.
The Tigers came out strong in the first half and went into halftime down just two points, 26-28. In the second half Somerset began taking advantage of some of the issues in the Tiger’s game.
“We had a good first half but the game got away from us in the second half,” Tiger head coach Chad Stenberg said. “We struggled both on defense and offense in second half. I think we just ran out of gas.”
Webster was led in scoring by Owen Washburn with 11 points. Tristen Benjamin was also helpful with eight points. The Somerset Spartans were led by Melvin Ortiz with 20 points.
This week the Tigers will head to Unity on Tuesday and then play Grantsburg on Friday at home.
“We will continue to improve the kids played hard and have worked hard in practice,” Stenberg said. “We have a fun week coming up with two conference games against two really good programs in Unity and Grantsburg.”
