The Webster Tigers won their first game this season thanks to outstanding scoring performances by Mason Gustafson and Owen Washburn. The team plays another important conference game this week when they take on Frederic.
On Tuesday the Tigers traveled to Unity and won 50-40, they were led by Gustafson and Washburn with 16 points each. Tristen Benjamin was impressive with 12 points of his own.
Head coach Chad Stenberg said the key to Gustafson and Washburn having good games was their three-point shot. Gustafson made three three-pointers and Washburn tallied two makes from beyond the arc.
Webster trailed going into halftime 21-24, but were able to outscore Unity in the second half 29-16.
“The The Unity game went well, but it was tough against a good young Unity team,” Webster head coach Chad Stenberg said after the game. “We played well on defense and took advantage of some of Unity's young players mistakes at the end of the game.”
Stenberg said the team will continue to work hard, “guys have been working hard and we will continue to improve every game and practice.”
Webster goes into the week 1-1 in conference play following their loss to Grantsburg.
