Webster can count on defense

Carsen Stenberg puts up a shot surrounded by Luck defenders.

The Tigers beat the Luck Cardinals by just two points on Friday night to keep them in second place in the Lakeland-West Conference behind rival Grantsburg.

Head Coach Chad Stenberg said the team came back following the break and got right back to work, which comes from the teams leaders.

“We got great leadership from are senior's Tristen Benjamin, Owen Washburn and Carsen Stenberg,” Stenberg said. “It wasn’t always pretty but they kept the team together and focused at the task in hand winning each game.”

Stenberg said the defense is helping win games now.

“I always preach defense and kids are buying into that. It was defense that helped us win against a good Luck team,” Stenberg said. “If the offense isn’t clicking we always can play good defense to keep us in the game.”

The team has had quite a few lineup changes but they are finding their groove.

“We have a big week coming up with two conference games Siren and Unity both well coached teams,” Stenberg said. “It will be nice to get Mason Gustafson back to add a little more depth. As always we will take one game at a time so our focus right now is on Siren that’s it. We need to continue to get better every practice and play one game at a time.”
