Tigers top Pirates in conference tilt

Grantsburg’s second baseman, Garrett Johnson, awaits the throw as Webster’s Jack Washburn slides in safely.

MAUSTON—With special arrangements made, some of the West Lakeland Conference baseball teams made a trip to Mauston to play on artificial turf as many of the ball fields aren’t ready for regular play.

One of those games played was Grantsburg vs. Webster of which the Pirates fell to the Tigers by a 23-3 margin.

“Ramsey (Clark) pitched decent for us,” reported Pirates coach Pete Johnson. “He threw a lot of strikes. Webster hit a lot of those strikes. What are you going to do?”

“Luke (Anderson) picked up a couple of hits, including a nice double to lead off the game.”

Anderson had that double and came in on a fielder’s choice by Thor Johnson.

The Tigers answered with two walks, a single, a triple by Trevor Gustafson, followed by an error, a single and another walk.

Grantsburg went 1-2-3 in their second, but the Tigers didn’t. With one out, Jack Washburn and Hunter Rosenbaum both doubled. Trevor Gustafson and Brad Sigfrids each singled. A walk, a single and another error finished the six run second.

Webster’s third inning produced five additional runs, the highlight being a triple by Owen Washburn.

Sigfrids doubled in the Tiger fourth when eight more runs came across.

Grantsburg got their last two runs in their half of the fifth. Dane Jensen and Matt Kottke both walked and came in by a single from Luke Anderson and a fielder’s choice from Sterling McKinley.

Anderson was two for three from the plate with an RBI to his credit.

Gustafson went three for three for the Tigers. Carsen Stenberg, Hunter Rosenbaum and Tanner Pardun were two for three.
