SHELL LAKE––Behind the shut out pitching of Jack Washburn, the Webster Tigers are going to the State Tournament next week in Grand Chute, Wisconsin.

The Tigers plucked the feathers off the Thorp Cardinals by a 14-0 score.

Washburn pitched all five innings, walking four and striking out eight. He faced four men in both the first and second innings, and then just the minimum three in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

The Tigers were visitors so they batted first and got two runs, the only runs they needed.

A hit batsman, errors by the Cardinals and stolen bases accounted for the first inning runs. Four more were added in inning two. After a walk, an out, a single and another walk, Washburn helped his own cause by lifting a three run home run.

Three were added in the third inning via singles, a hit batsman, a few errors and a fly to the outfield.

The fourth inning had five come across as insurance runs. Two singles, a walk, a two run double by Owen Washburn and a triple by Jack Washburn were the highlights of the inning.

Jack Washburn went two for three in this game, a homer and a triple, recording four RBI’s.

Trevor Gustafson was also two for three - a double and a single - with an RBI to his credit. Coleton Peterson was two for three - two singles - with one RBI.

The Tigers will face Athens at Grand Chute on Wednesday, June 12 at 8 a.m.  Athens comes from the Marawood North Conference and boasts an 18-4 overall record with a 9-1 conference mark, good for first place.
