WEBSTER––Two home runs by Owen Washburn help power the Webster Tigers to a 4-0 win over the St. Croix Central Panthers on Friday afternoon.
In front of a crowd which included some visiting students from other schools, the Tigers, though their bats were somewhat silent, showed why they are the team to be reckoned with come tournament time.
Pitcher Hunter Rosenbaum went a little over five innings, allowing only one hit, walked three and struck out 10.
Both Carsen Stenberg and Trevor Gustafson pitched in relief to preserve the win.
In inning one, Stenberg got on via a walk and Washburn launched his first homerun over the right center field fence for a 2-0 lead.
He led off the third inning with another homer, not far from the first one.
Washburn singled in the fifth inning and came in on a single by Trevor Gustafson.
Thus, he scored three times, went three for three from the plate and batted in three runs.
Matt Buffington got two hits, both singles.
After hosting Mondovi on Tuesday, the Tigers will host Hayward on Friday, before beginning the playoffs next week.
