RUSH CITY, Minn. – The schedule gets a bit busier next week for the Grantsburg co-op gymnastics team.
This season the team has competed in just two events, separated by multiple weeks, but has two events in the span of five days next week. Grantsburg goes to Rice Lake on Tuesday and is in the River Falls Winter Wonderland Invitational on Jan. 18.
The second of the two completed events was at Rush City on Saturday and Grantsburg finished third with 119.725 points, behind North Branch (127.875) and Rush City (127.1).
“Overall, the team did pretty well coming back from break,” Grantsburg coach Kathy Lund said.
Grantsburg’s had its best numbers in the vault, scoring 33.875 points. Jeni Petersen led the team with an 8.725 to place third while Rush City’s Livia Isackson-Rod was first with a 9.3. Allison Peterson (8.575) added a 4th-place finish for Grantsburg; Khylie Young-Garayt (8.375) was sixth and Amy Harmon (8.2) tied for 10th.
Harmon (6.85) led Grantsburg with a 6th-place finish in the uneven parallel bars, won by Dakota Esget (8.6) of North Branch. Petersen (6.7) was eighth for Grantsburg and Peterson (6.5) was ninth. Harmon also tied for sixth in the balance beam with a 7.575; Petersen (7.525) was seventh and Young-Garayt (7.4) was eighth.
Petersen was close to a win in the floor exercise, placing second with a 9.0 while Isackson-Rod was first with a 9.375. The finish boosted Petersen to a 3rd-place finish in the all-around with a 31.95; Peterson was sixth with a 29.575 and Young-Garayt was seventh with a 28.825.
