Balance and improvement have been the keys to the Grantsburg boys success on the court this season.
It’s been a good start to the season, head coach Nick Hallberg said. The team is 6-1 and currently on a six-game win streak after dropping the season opener against Cameron at home.
“We are balanced on the offensive end,” Hallberg said. “We have five guys on the floor that understand their role and they all complement each other’s game. Our defense has been pretty good and is improving with each game.”
Leadership has also been important to the Pirates so far this season.
“We've had different guys step up in different ways throughout the early part of the season. We went into the season with a team full of captains,” Hallberg said. “They hold each other accountable and all get along well off the floor. They are great kids to coach.”
Hallberg said to keep up the winning the team needs to stay healthy and improve on their game, even the upperclassmen.
“We need to continue to improve on the fundamentals of the game, even as a group of upperclassmen, there is always something to be better at,” Hallberg said. “We aren't taking the opportunity to play games for granted, knowing full well that a COVID situation could interrupt our season on any given day.”
The Pirates play Luck on Tuesday then travel to Frederic and Shell Lake for their next two games.
