GRANTSBURG – Two Grantsburg volleyball players added statewide recognition to their conference awards.
Sophomore Hanne Johnson and senior Olivia Ohnstad were put among the top high school volleyball players in Wisconsin with the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association’s all-state selections. Johnson was one of 10 Division 3 players given first-team status while Ohnstad was included in the 30 players designated as honorable mentions for the 2019 season.
Johnson – one of the five underclassmen in the first-team selections – led the Pirates with 384 kills in just her second year of high school competition. She also was second on the team with 392 digs and 366 assists, while playing for her mother Deb Allaman-Johnson.
“She works very hard, is humble and team-oriented,” the Grantsburg coach said. “Team success means more to her than individual accolades.”
Ohnstad, meanwhile, appeared in all-state selections for the second time, ranking second on the team with 300 kills and 58 blocks; she also was third in digs with 361.
“(Ohnstad’s) presence will be missed,” Allaman-Johnson said. “She is a three-year starter, all-conference player and a two-time all-state player. She was a senior co-captain who provided outstanding leadership, ethics, integrity and intensity.”
The duo led the Pirates to a 30-6 overall record, a runner-up finish in the Lakeland West and multiple playoff wins in the recently-completed season that included a 10-match win streak.
