GRANTSBURG – Area volleyball teams posted a double-digit total of players recognized in all-conference selections in the Lakeland West for 2019.
Grantsburg, Webster and Siren each had multiple players selected as either first-team, second-team or honorable mentions for the recently-completed season.
The Pirates, who finished second in the conference with a 10-2 mark and were 30-6 overall on the season, had five players chosen for either the first or second team. Senior Olivia Ohnstad and sophomore Hanne Johnson earned first-team status for Grantsburg. Johnson led the team with 384 kills while adding 27 aces, 49 blocks, 380 digs and 366 assists. Ohnstad was second on the team for both kills (300) and blocks (58) and had 361 digs.
Webster junior Summer Winkler was the Tigers’ lone first-team selection after leading the team with 230 kills and 40 blocks. She also ranked second in digs (202) and third in aces (32) for the Tigers.
Three of the Pirates’ seniors were included in second-team selections. Ellie Duncan led the team with 495 assists and 51 aces; Brooke Quimby led the team with 69 blocks and had 139 kills with 26 aces while Raisa Jensen had a team-high 392 digs and 27 aces.
Webster and Siren accounted for five of the eight players given honorable mentions. Senior Kaitlyn Lee led the Tigers with 358 assists and had 170 digs; junior Brooke Hetfeld was second on the team with 194 kills and 33 blocks while fellow junior Hannah Janssen ranked second in assists (351) for Webster.
Two of Siren’s seniors – Rylee O’Brien and Karlee Sybers – also were honorable mentions.
