The good news is surgery went well for Brody Measner.
The Frederic native and former Frederic Vikings speedster and current Siren Steeler baseball player had a tumor removed from his head during a 14-hour surgery last week.
"It went very well," said his mother Sandy, although he had to be taken in for additional surgical work.
"He can't talk much, but he's talking better than he did," said Sandy Measner.
He originally became alarmed when he lost hearing in one ear. Doctors discovered a non-cancerous tumor growing against nerves that controlled the hearing.
"Monday he was sitting up and was planning to exercise," said Sandy Measner.
Brody had trouble swallowing at first because the tumor had begun to press against throat and tongue nerves.
"He hadn't eaten in five days," said his mother, but he was starting to return to normal.
"They got everything and there was no nerve damage," she said.
Brody will not be able to work for a year as he recovers from the surgery. He's expected to be in the hospital for seven to 10 days, then will go home to recover.
"He won't be able to do any lifting," said his mother.
She said, "It looks good — much better than when he first came out of surgery."
