Sexual contact charge leads to possibly sending man back to Mexico.
It started when the Grantsburg Police Department was informed two individuals said a man was making unwanted sexual contact with them at the laundromat.
"We knew the suspect from a previous contact and conviction for the same type of incident," said Police Chief Jeff Schinzing in a letter to the village board.
Charges have been filed with the District Attorney's Office for sexual assault. "Contact has been made with the immigration office and the border patrol. They are looking into having the illegal immigrant deported back to Mexico," said Chief Schinzing.
"If successful, this will be the second time the suspect has been deported from the United States," added the chief.
The Immigration office was, at first, unwilling to take action, but the chief said, "It now appears they have placed a hold on him and are willing to move forward to have him deported because of the charges against him."
Obtaining information from the individual was difficult, said Chief Schinzing. He doesn't speak much English and ian interpreter was needed. None were available in Burnett County so the suspect was taken to Polk County and the Polk County Court System for questioning.
