Cardinals disappointed as they just miss state meet.
COLFAX—Both Luck and senior Travis Close just missed out on trips to the state golf meet.
On Tuesday, Eleva-Strum won the sectional with 325 strokes with Osseo-Fairchild close behind in second place at 332.
Both will go to the state as a team.
Luck was close behind at 335 in third place — three strokes from making it to the big show.
On top of that, three individual qualifiers not on state-bound teams go to state.
Luck’s Travis Close shot a 78 and was fourth — one stroke behind third place Jake Nelson of Ladysmith with a 77.
It was a tough way for the season to end for the area’s best golf team.
Luck had Dylan Fultz shoot an 84; Kody Erickson an 86; and Noah Thatcher, Carson Giller both 87.
Grantsburg finished in sixth place at 358.
The team was led by Brad Berner’s 87. Connar Goetz came in at 91 with Tony LaMere at 94 and Derek Sando at 96.
The area’s third team in the meet, Webster, came in ninth of the 12 teams.
They shot a 373.
The top Webster golfer for the sectional meet was Karl Weber with an 86. Mitchell Elliott shot a 93, Scott Stromberg a 91 and Dan Erickson a 103.
But the heartbreaker was Luck, losing after winning all meets this year, including the West Lakeland Conference and the combined Lakeland Conference. Here’s the final team totals:
