Minutes from March 8, 2021

President Dave Dahlberg called the meeting to order. Present:  Dave Dahlberg, Dan Ohnstad, Chris Erickson, Russ Erickson, and Brian Handy.  Absent:  Renae Rombach and Jason Burkman.

Motion C. Erickson/Handy to approve the School Board minutes from February 22, 2021. Motion carried 6-0.

Received Reports

•Good News in Our Schools Report was shared by Principals.

•Spring Activities and Facility Use Update presented by Mr. Watt.  GSD will continue to use the WIAA and Lakeland Conference guidelines for high school and youth sports.  Indoor activities will follow the Governor’s face covering mandate and adhere to group size limits.

•iForward Executive Board Meeting Minutes of 03-01-2021 were shared with the Board.

•Upcoming Board Committee meetings:  Personnel Committee- April 5 at 5 pm.;  Finance Committee- April 6 at 5 pm.; Policy Committee- May 3 at 7:30 am.

•Mr. Watt shared the progress on the Referendum Timeline which include, as District responsibilities, social media weekly posts and postcards to parents this month.

Consent Items

Motion Rombach/C. Erickson to add an additional in-service day, (April 9, 2021), to the 2020-2021 District Calendar.  Motion carried 6-0.

Motion Dahlberg/Rombach to approve new full-time iForward teaching positions for the 2021-2022 school year.  This would include four elementary school positions, one elementary/middle school special education position, and elementary/middle school reading position (RtI) and one elementary/middle school math RtI teaching position.   Motion carried 6-0.

Motion Rombach/Handy to accept the retirement resignation of Penny Curtin, GMS Teacher. Motion carried 6-0 with many thanks for her dedicated years of service to the District.

Motion C. Erickson/Rombach to approve the unpaid leave request of Connie Engstrom.  Motion carried 6-0.

Motion C. Erickson/Ohnstad to approve the unpaid leave request of Hank Java.  Motion carried 6-0.

Fiscal Report/Receipts Report: February 2021.  Motion C. Erickson/Rombach to approve the March 2021 vouchers for payment.  Specific check numbers are: #32304; #81057-#81199; #20605-20612.        Motion carried 6-0.

Motion R. Erickson/Ohnstad to convene in Closed Session per Wisconsin Statutes 19.85 (1) (c) considering employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data of any public employee over which the governmental body has jurisdiction or exercises responsibility; (f) considering financial, medical, social or personal histories or disciplinary data of specific persons, preliminary consideration of specific personnel problems or the investigation of charges against specific persons which, if discussed in public, would be likely to have a substantial adverse effect upon the reputation of any person referred to in such histories or data, or involved in such problems or investigations; and (g) conferring with legal counsel for the governmental body who is rendering oral or written advice concerning strategy to be adopted by the body with respect to litigation in which it is, or is likely to become involved.   Motion carried 6-0.

Motion Rombach/Handy to reconvene in Open Session and take action as appropriate on matters from the Closed Session.  Motion carried 6-0.
