Raymond Hinrichs

Raymond “Buster” Hinrichs died peacefully after a long illness on August 19, 2019 having reached the age of 91. He was born on August 14, 1928 in Frederic, the youngest son of six children born to Remer and Emma (Sahr) Hinrichs. His early school years through eighth grade were spent at Spirit Lake School. He attended Grantsburg High School but left early to help his elderly parents on the farm.

On April 15, 1950 he was married to Betty Mae Ryan and they were happily married for just shy of 70 years. To this union three children were born, Daniel, Thomas and Mary Lynn. In 1958 they purchased the family farm in Grantsburg from his parents. He milked cows until 1986, then continued raising beef cattle. He farmed the land he loved raising corn and beans until he was 84.

He was a talented athlete who loved all sports. He played baseball for the Grantsburg town team, softball for many teams well into his fifties, enjoyed bowling, and in the later years loved golf and was proud to have had a hole in one.

He traveled widely as long as he could, enjoying many winters in Texas on the golf course. He spent a lifetime of learning and when he could no longer farm, spent every day reading every book he could lay his hands on. He was an avid Brewer, Badger and Packer fan, attending many games at Lambeau Field.

Ray was a loving family man – always there for everyone.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert and Arnold; sisters, Rose Gross and Audrey Hinrichs; daughter-in-law, Tina Hinrichs; and baby grandson.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Mae; sons, Daniel (Kim) Hinrichs, Thomas Hinrichs; daughter, Mary Hinrichs all of Grantsburg; four grandchildren, Daniel (Heather) Hinrichs II, Rachael (Adam) Praught, James (Krystal) Hinrichs and Brian (Holly) Hinrichs; great-grandchildren, Landon, Declan, Adison, Nolan, Ivy, Alaina, Emmett, Emmalynn, Sheldon, Donovan and Mya; sister, Virginia Danielson; sisters-in-law, Karen Klinkhammer, Ethel Deiss, Lenore Ramsdell; and many dear nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass was held on Friday, August 23 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Grantsburg with Father Joseph Madanu presiding. Honorary Pallbearers were Donald Syring, Tony Deiss, Timothy Hesla, Ronald Kotz, Ray Gonsior and David Rudolph. Interment at Riverside Cemetery in Grantsburg will be at a later date.

Blessed be his memory.
