Beverly Anne Howerton, age 84, of Winnetka, CA, passed away on Dec. 13, 2020 in Simi Valley, CA.
A graveside service was held at Oakwood Memorial Cemetery on Dec. 28, 2020 with Matthew Deseno officiating. Rose Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Beverly Howerton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and cousin was born to William Smitha and Queen Franklin on Jan. 18, 1936 in a log house in Baisam Township, 12 miles NE of Tamarack, Minn. She grew up on a farm in Webster and graduated from Webster High School in 1954 in a class of 36. After graduating she went to her brother in Dumas, TX and began working in a bank.
It was there that she met and married the love of her life, Darrell Howerton on Jan. 4, 1955. They moved to Sunnyvale, CA and raised their family. In 1962 they moved to Winnetka, CA and resided there for 57 years.
In 1975 she returned to work as a bookkeeper in a retail plumbing store in Van Nuys, CA and later at Capitol Real Estate in Simi Valley, CA. After 43 years of work through 2018 she retired due to medical conditions.
She celebrated over 64 years of marriage with Darrell until he passes away in July, 2019. She cherished time with her children and grandchildren and their activities as they grew and matured. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, reading, playing cards, puzzles, watching her children play sports that grew into a baseball fan, watching Hallmark movies, and watching Westerns with Darrel. She had a determined and loyal spirit and loved sharing time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by parents William and Queen Smith; daughter Cindy Lynn Bruno; sister Margie Smith; brothers Lawrence, Byron, Paul, Edwin, William and Michael Smith.
She is survived by her sons, Rick (Sandee), Gary (Alison), son-in-law Jerry Bruno; grandchildren Rachel and Jaclyn Howerton, Lexu Howerton, Erica Deseno, Angela Howerton, Nicole, Stephanie, and Victoria Bruno; great grandson Kingston Deseno; and sister Marian Barber-Johnson.
