Ardyce O’Konski, age 89, died at her home in Danbury on Dec. 22, 2019. She was the daughter of Charles Delmar Boatman and Eldora Malcom. She was born on July 25, 1930, on a farm the family called “The Jones Place” in Douglas Township, Clay County, Iowa. They also lived north of Peterson Iowa and in Peterson before moving in the late 1930s to a farm about 2.5 miles east of Cushing in Polk County. Ardyce attended the Pleasant Valley grade school and graduated from Milltown High School in 1949.
Ardyce and Myron Nelson of Trade River were married on Sept. 10, 1949, in Pine County Minn. Although later divorced, the four children of the marriage survived them. On May 6, 1967, she was married to John O’Konski in Hudson. She and John lived a few years in Prior Lake, Minn., but lived most of the time after that in Danbury.
Ardyce, while raising her family, had a large garden and canned the produce from it as well as fruit bought from stores in the summer. She was especially known for her needlework and won many ribbons at the county fair. Starting in 1986, she began a 20 year responsibility of reporting the Danbury weather conditions to the National Weather Service.
Ardyce is survived by her children: Mikkel Nelson of Madison, Lucille Nelson of Roseville, CA, Terry (Linda) Nelson of Danbury, Tony Nelson of Grantsburg, grandchildren: Marcus (Maria) Nelson of Spooner, Rindy (Aaron) Hughes of Minneapolis, Minn., great grandchildren Tristan and Gabriela Nelson of Spooner, and her brother Grant (Joyce) Boatman of Fairmont, Minn. She is also survived by John’s children: James O’Konski of Edwardsburg, MI, Randy (Sharon) O’Konski of Decatur, MI, Terry Fosdick of Cassopolis, MI, and Rick (Donna) O’Konski of Dowagiac, MI.
