WEBSTER—A herd formed at the south end of the Central Burnett County Fairgrounds the morning of August 10 for the Webster Police Department Bicycle ‘Roadeo.’ Held in conjunction with Gandy Dancer Days festivities, the bicycle ‘roadeo’ encourages safe riding practices and gives kids a chance to interact with officers in a fun activity.
“It’s good for the kids to do something fun with us,” said Chief Stephenie Wedin. Wedin and her officers, Michael Zajac and Derek Petersen, guided participants through a course designed to practice skills such as hand signals and proper stops.
This year, 102 kids under the age of 15 completed the safety course. The average age of all participants was eight years who came from as far away as Marshfield, WI and Bismark, ND. Children who finished the safety course received a chance to win one of twenty-eight bicycles, one Xbox, two 43-inch televisions, two Android tablets or three bicycle safety packets.
“We look forward to hosting this event every year. We’re already thinking of how to make next year even better,” Wedin said. “We get a lot of support from our local businesses. I want to make sure to thank all our sponsors and volunteers for helping put on a successful event!”
