CLEAR LAKE––Two Clayton teenagers were killed in a car accident Monday afternoon.
Authorities responded to a call about an accident on Highway 63 after calls started coming in about a sedan versus semi-truck crash near the intersection of 60th Avenue in the Town of Clear Lake.
Michael Magnuson, 16, and Grace Schradle, 16, both of rural Clayton were pronounced dead at the scene. Initial reports say Magnuson was driving and Schradle was in the front passenger seat.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, both people in the sedan suffered fatal injuries following the accident Monday Sept. 16 just before 2 p.m. When officers arrived on the scene they noted the sedan was in a ditch and resting upside down.
The sheriff’s office released a statement explaining they believe the semi was pulling a trailer while traveling north on Highway 63 approaching 60th Ave, while the sedan was traveling east on 60th Avenue.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and community as we all continue to get through this tragic event.”
Witnesses told authorities the sedan allegedly entered the highway without stopping at a stop sign. The semi-truck was about halfway through the intersection when the sedan hit the side of the trailer.
Assisting the Polk County Sheriff’s Office with the crash was Clear Lake Police Department, Clear Lake fire and first responders, Clayton Fire and first responders, Amery area ambulance, Wisconsin State Patrol, and the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
