State-funded trails have been going through a bit of a roller coaster this winter. The trails are open now, but forecasts show they might be closed by the weekend thanks to a steady stream of users and predicted temps reaching 50 degrees.

According to the Burnett County Forest and Parks Department, all state-funded snowmobile and winter ATV/UTV trails are open. A number of southern trails in the county were closed at the end of February.

Following a week of lots of riding and warming temperatures the trails began to deteriorate. The Gandy Dancer State Trail was closed last week but opened again on Monday, March 1.
