A Frederic man is headed to California in hopes of winning a National Championship.

The race is next weekend as part of the NHRA (National Hod Rod Association) Summit Racing Series National Championship.

Steve Roehrs was able to outperform over 100 other drivers to punch his ticket to race in Po-mona, Calif. for a national title. He races in the Pro class in his 1982 Camaro.

In Sept. Roehrs took his Camaro to Topeka, Kan. for the fifth division qualifying race. The Pro class has seven division qualifiers and a wildcard qualifier.

Sunday, Nov. 17 is race day and Roehrs is confident after his Topeka victory and hopes to bring home a national title.

Each national champion will receive $5,000, an NHRA Gold Card, a champions trophy, and a jacket. All qualifiers who attend the Pomona race are guaranteed to receive a minimum of $3,000.
