Authorities responded to a shots fired complaint in Grantsburg on Feb. 3. There were no reported injuries from the incident.

Burnett County Sheriff Tracy Finch and Grantsburg Police Chief Dan Wald released a joint statement the day after the incident on Nelson Street.

The statement said following an investigation it is believed Douglas Murphy Jr. fired the shots Wednesday afternoon. The sheriff’s office said they would not release the name of the victim at this time.

Finch told the Public Safety committee that the Burnett County Emergency Response Team responded to the call with their armored vehicle to the scene.

“The Grantsburg Police Department was granted a search warrant that was executed by the Burnett County Emergency Response Team in conjunction with the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office,” the joint statement said. “The warrant was executed at approximately 9:25 p.m. and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.”

North Ambulance was also on the scene providing standby coverage.

“It was a long night, but things worked out well,” Finch said after saying there were no injuries from the incident.

Murphy Jr., 25, Grantsburg, plead guilty to possession of THC in 2019 according to online court records. There have been no charges filed as of yet for the shooting incident.

Online records also show Murphy Jr. currently lives at the home on Nelson Street where the shooting incident happened.

The case is being handled by the Grantsburg Police Department.

At press time there were no charges filed in this incident.
